English Immersion
Immersive Bilingual Education: Nurturing Global Citizens
Developing English Naturally in a Diverse Environment While Enhancing Japanese Proficiency

For students born and raised in Japan, whose primary language is Japanese, strong Japanese language skills are fundamental for academic success. At Seirei Christopher Elementary School, we employ the “Transitional Language Model,” a pedagogical approach that facilitates natural second language acquisition by gradually shifting the language focus.

Lower Grades: Emphasis is placed on solidifying Japanese language proficiency.
Middle Grades: A balanced approach is adopted, with equal emphasis on Japanese and English instruction.
Upper Grades: English instruction is gradually increased.

This staged approach, grounded in strong Japanese language skills, empowers our students to become confident bilingual communicators who can effectively express themselves in both languages according to the context.

Immerse in Global English with a Diverse Educators
At Seirei Christopher Elementary School, half of our teaching staff are International Educators. This diverse faculty brings a wealth of global perspectives and authentic English accents to our classrooms. By learning alongside teachers from various cultural backgrounds, our students:
  • Develop a global perspective and a deep respect for cultural diversity.
  • Gain exposure to diverse ways of thinking and living.
  • Cultivate a sense of self-affirmation by embracing their unique identities.
  • Become confident and active English communicators.

This immersive environment fosters a genuine appreciation for the richness and beauty of the English language spoken around the world.

At Seirei Christopher Elementary School, we consider our overseas study programs as more than just language training and cross-cultural experiences. Grades 1-5
Everyday life is a mini overseas study program
At Seirei Christopher Elementary School, the entire school environment is international, featuring English-language displays in classrooms and English-language instruction from teachers from diverse countries. This “mini-study abroad” program begins in the first grade, cultivating an international perspective in our students.
Grade 6
Full-Scale Overseas Study for 6th Graders
Students who have experienced “mini-study abroad” programs since the first grade begin to prepare for full-scale overseas study programs in their upper grades. Currently, 6th graders experience approximately two weeks of homestay and attend a local school in Queensland, Australia. Living in a foreign country away from their parents is a significant challenge for the students.
After returning to Japan
Changes Upon Return
Through these challenging experiences, returning students discover new aspects of themselves, clarify their future goals, and begin to understand the importance of their post-elementary school studies.
