Participated in Virtual Exchange Program hosted by Nanyang Polytechnic
This is a substitute program of Overseas Nursing Practicum because students could not go to Singapore due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two fourth-year nursing students participated in Virtual Exchange Program hosted by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in Singapore. The students participated in an introduction of a new hospital by a chief nurse, a lecture on health promotion, and cultural exchange.
Both of them participated in study visit program in Singapore when they were in first year. They seemed to deepen their understanding of healthcare and nursing in Singapore based on their knowledge and experience from the past three years.
Here are some comments from the students.

I only participated for two days, but this was great, because I had opportunities to interact with NYP students and learn more about medical care in Singapore. We were not able to visit hospitals and facilities and talk with NYP students in real life, because the practicum was cancelled due to COVID-19. However, I think it was enough to deepen my understanding online. It was especially valuable experience to listen to an explanation from a chief nurse at a new hospital which will open in the future. I would love to participate in the program again.

I learned not only medical care in Singapore but also similarities and differences in both culture. Not only that, I also had opportunities to interact with NYP students. I was inspired a lot by participating in this program.
I received an explanation about a hospital which will open in two years. This hospital is more accessible in comparison to hospitals which I visited during the study visit program when I was in first year. The hospital puts a lot of effort into activities for prevention, working as a team, and providing efficient and safe care by utilizing ICT. Above all, it was really impressive that they value their staff and hopes that the hospital is where staff want to work. I would like to work there, too.
Even before the start of the program, I had contacted a NYP student (my “buddy”) and talked to prepare a presentation about our culture. She was very nice to me during the program, too. We shared pictures and videos about present situation of medical care in Japan and my daily life. We could not meet in person, but I feel we exchanged our opinions well and built a good relationship. I hope we can meet in person one day.
I thought of many things during the program, because I am a fourth-year student now. I will cherish what I learned from the program and the relationship with my friends, and keep my efforts for the future.
